Experiences you absolutely won’t forget

Let us connect you and your cruise guests to our history with one or more of these unique offerings. 

Soldier for a Day: Ready. Aim. Fire! Spend a day in the Victorian Army for the ultimate in historical experiences. This highly interactive program allows visitors to dress in period uniform, experience 19th century military drill, discipline and accommodation. You’ll even get a taste of Victorian-era food! The crack of rifle fire will signal the end of your day.

The Soldier for a Day experience includes:

  • A site tour, a historically-themed lunch, morning and afternoon refreshments, a gift and time for site exploration and shopping.
  • Duration: 7 hours

The Highlander Experience: In the Victorian period, the code-phrase for an individual’s enlistment in the army was “take the Queen’s Shilling.” Enlist with us for a half-day program and lend your hand to a cannon’s crew, get up close and personal with the Highland bagpipe and walk the walls of the Citadel with a 19th-century soldier as your guide. The Highlander Experience includes:

  • Refreshments, a gift and time for site exploration and shopping.
  • Duration: 3 hours

Victorian Tea and Tour: Come and experience the quintessential Victorian pastime. Following a tour of the Citadel, treat yourself to a traditional tea in one of the fort’s historically restored rooms and learn of the evolution of this most British of activities. Will that be one lump or two? The Victorian Tea and Tour includes:

  • Time for site exploration and shopping.
  • Duration: 2 hours

Fort Tour: Come and see the best panoramic views of the city, while guides entertain you with tales of an empire and point out local landmarks from atop the Citadel’s ramparts. Learn why Rudyard Kipling dubbed Halifax the “Warden of the North.” The Fort Tour includes:

  • Time for site exploration and shopping
  • Duration: 1.5 hours

All donations received are used to bring history to life at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada, by hiring young men and women to portray the British Garrison in Halifax at the time of our nation's birth.
